El Origen 'Crushed'

Finca El Origen is the new and attractive 100% premium varietal range from Argentina.  Set to launch in September 2008 at the Annual Trade tasting in London, table93, the wines will be available exclusively through Crush Wines Ltd.

An array of wines will be shown in a three tier structure: the Premium Varietals, Reserva and Gran Reserva, from RSP £4.99 through to RSP £10.99.  Excitingly, the winery will be releasing the NEW Reserva Torrontés 2007 as well as the NEW vintage Gran Reserva Malbec 2007

The winery currently owns three vineyard sites; two in the high altitude Uco Valley and Cafayete.  Las Pintadas (90 ha) and Las Esperanza (120 ha) are situated more than 1000 metres above sea level in the superb Uco Valley.  This higher altitude allows for a longer ripening process; more complexity and good tannin structure; and results in a richer quality wine.  Grapes for the Reserva and Gran Reserva wines are taken from Las Esperanza.  Interestingly, grapes from both vineyards are also bought by surrounding Bodegas for use in their ultra premium wines.  The Torrontés grape is grown in the Cafayete vineyard and the company is just about to complete on a site in Patagonia.

Gastón Williams, Commercial Director commented “we have carefully matched each grape variety to the best vineyard site in these locations.  This allows us to prioritize the benefits of the terroir in this unique region combined with the high altitude in the resulting quality wines.”

The Finca El Origen operation was set up in 1990 by Chile’s Santa Carolina wines, at the time, looking to expand into the Mendoza. The support network gained with this partnership has given Finca El Origen the technical and financial expertise along with marketing and economies of scale gains.

The first Finca El Origen wines were released in 2002 but this is their first serious foray into the UK market.
